the Truth About Fat.

Obesity and its complications are a worldwide epidemic.

Obesity is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or greater. BMI is calculated from a person’s weight and height and provides a reasonable indicator of body fatness and weight categories that may lead to health problems. Obesity is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.

2 out of 3 U.S. adults (67%) are overweight.
1 out of 3 U.S. adults (33%) are obese.
15% of American Children (Age 6-19) are overweight.
1.5 billion people are overweight worldwide.
400 million people are obese worldwide.
There are 140 million overweight adults in the U.S.

Although it is usually the first thing you notice externally, the concern isn’t just about the fat around your waistline. It’s the fat around your HEART. your BRAIN. your LIVER. your LUNGS. in your TISSUES.  Not only that, but also the strain it puts on our bones and structure that has to support it all. These are the concerns!

In this MRI scan, you can really notice the difference between a healthy BMI versus an obese BMI…you can literally see where the strain is put on the body, and the dangers. It leaves me speechless.

My desire to help people achieve a healthy shape, rather than an “ideal weight” is driven by these images. Not to mention, the increasing numbers of overweight and clinically obese American’s is astounding. I don’t want to see these numbers continually increase, I aim to get them down! Especially the fact that our next generation’s children are being outlived by their parents, due to childhood obesity caused by poor nutrition! These numbers below are from 2008…

Percent of Obese (BMI> 30) in U.S. Adults
